Save on your water energy bill with these home tips!

  • Conserve water by turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth and shaving.
  • Little bit of water left in your cup? Don't dump it, water some plants.
  • Replace the washers in your faucet to stop leaks.
  • Add food coloring to your toilet tank to check for a leak. If there is a leak colored water will appear in 30 minutes.
  • Only flush when neccesary. Throw the dead bugs i the basket.
  • Five minute showers! You can do it!
  • taking a bath? Plug the tub before you turn the water on.
  • Flow restrictors are great for conserving on your faucets.
  • Kitchen sink disposals use an extreme amount of water to work properly. How about an outdoor garden for spices and use the compost waste for fertilizer.
  • Install an instant water heater on your kitchen sink so you don't waste water running it while you wait for it to warm up.
  • Insulate your pipes.
  • If the water pump turns on when not in use your well has a leak.
  • To adjust water temperature while doing the sishes or taking a bath, turn the water down instead of up.
  • Replace the toilet handle if it sticks in the flush position.
  • Don't over water your lawn. For the summer just every 7 days and every 14 in the winter, and remember to water in the morning when it's not as hot and your water doesn't evaporate faster.
  • Get water efficient sprinkler like Micro or drip irrigation.
  • Get a rain sensor for your sprinkler so you dont water your lawn during a storm.
  • When cutting your lawn, set the blade to 3 inches. Higher grass letsthe roots grow deeper and holds moisture in the soil better
  • Mulch is good for soil moisture too. It also helps control weeds.
  • Pant native grass to your area. This help them survive better during the dry and winter seasons.
  • Avoid hosing down your driveway or walkway. Use a broom or a leafblower.
  • Get a shut off nozzle to adjust the flow speed of your hose, and remember to shut off the water at the faucet to avoid dripping from the nozzle.
  • If you wash your car, park on the grass!
  • If you must have a water fountain get a solar powered on that recycles the water.
  • Get a solar powered pool heater.

All theses little things add up to big savings in your water energy bill. Make them a routine part of your everyday life!
