Solar Powered Water Heater
A solar powered water heater will probably be the biggest saver in your electric bill. The average household spends ups to 30% of their energy heating water for showers, dishes and laundry. The CO2 produced for the juice to run conventional heaters yearly in the USA is almost equal to all the cars and small trucks on the road. That's a few toes lopped off the old carbon footprint.
I won't lie to you, if you're looking for green energy jobs, a company that makes these is most likely to have openings on the factory floor.
This is big business. As we will soon witness with the electric car industry we see it now with this one. The big money in these has spawned big competition, domestically and abroad, so there are many types of them and you need to choose one, first and foremost, based on if it snows where you live. Some solar water heaters are mounted on your roof and in cold climates would freeze. Almost all solar heaters need a back up system in case of a cloudy day and high demand, but there's a heater for every climate and every personality it seems. There's: Flat-plate collector, Thermosyphon systems, Batch Systems, Evacuated-tube solar collectors, Direct Open Loop Circulation Systems, Indirect Closed Loop Circulation Systems, and Drainback Systems.
Like a computer nerd trying to tackle an NFL linebacker, the Geek knows when he's outmatched. I give it a big Geek-thumbs-up, but I sadly don't have the brain power to explain it best for you so here's a link to those who can -
