Solar Powered Bikes

Solar powered bikes are really hybrid machines that run on both human energy and solar (most anyway). There's thousands of enthusiast designers and bikes they come in every shape you could possibly imagine, from two to four wheels.

There are conversion kits you can buy to turn your own bike electric for around $350-800. They come with a motor controller, throttle, and a watt meter. You also need a battery, a charge controller, solar panels, and some sort of mounting rack. Deciding where the panels go is really the fun part. Some trail it along in a rickshaw while others make a canopy out of them. It all depends on how fast and and how far you want to go on just solar power. Some look like mini cars and go up to 70mph and with a 150 mile range.

This is a great way to get around, they definitely help the enviornment, and it's fantastic for getting the word out on solar energy. You'll turn lots of heads and answer questions about your bike everyday, all day - it's awesome!
