Solar Pool Heater

A solar pool heater can heat your backyard swimming pool or your hot tub. Unlike the gas powered pool heaters and electric heat pumps, these don't add carbon emissions into the air. This is different than a solar pool cover, and a little cooler... um niftyer.

How it works is by using your existing pool pump, your pool water is pumped up through solar collectors (either mounted on the roof, a fence, or the ground) that heat the water as it runs through the collectors and then back into your pool. The collectors are easily rolled up to be stored for winter if you like. They are relatively simple to install, only basic carpentry and plumping skills are needed. In fact you can build a solar heater from scratch if you like. The Geek here is happy to show you how.

If your attic is the same square footage as your pool, there's also solar attic heat exchanger radiators that can take the heat from your attic and run it into your pool filter to heat the pool as well. This cools your house down at the same time so you spend less on air conditioning. This will also save roof space for solar panels to power other things.
