Solar Pool Cover

A solar pool cover floats on top of the water surface and heats the pool by absorbing sunlight. How is this different that a regular plastic pool cover? Well, it's what it's made of that raises the water temperature higher than most. They look like a giant sheet of bubble wrap. Some are UV-stabilized polyethylene, polypropylene, or viny. Others have aluminum second layer that faces downward so the light and heat that gets through is trapped in the water.

They are extremely simple to use, just roll it out, covering the pool, then roll it back to go for a dip. They don't heat the water continuously as a Solar pool heater does, when the cover comes off, heat starts escaping, but they keep the water warmer and from evaporating better than a cheap sheet of plastic. If you can't afford the heater this is the next best thing. It uses thermal energy, so the Geek gives it a fist bump.
