Human Power

You may not realize it but human power (that's right you) is a source of renewable energy! Walking, jogging, and running are all forms of human kinetic energy. We can use ourselves to power a multitude of things.

Cycling is the most efficient method of human energy generation. Many devices attach to your bicycle (to power things like your bike light) or free standing equipment with pedals attached to a generator that can run any number of electrical things around your house, from juicers, washing machines, light bulbs, to even your television. The best part is you get a great a work out while you save on your energy bill.

Hand crank generators are popular in flash lights and hand held radios. Using magnets and copper coils, Farady flashlights harness power from shaking it. Treadmills are also used to generate power, using the same principles as a pedal powered device. All of these things can be DIY projects for your home - let the Geek here help spark the inventor in you! However, the real reward for these devices is in underdeveloped countries where they serve a real need.
