Energy Star Appliances

What are energy star appliances? Well, the EPA and the U.S. Department of Energy have teamed up and made an "Energy Star" label for products that meet strict energy efficient standards. The Geek says, pretty handy, but make sure you do your own research.

The average home gobbles up 17% of it's energy from appliances; refrigerators, dishwashers, clothes washers, and dryers take up most of that. Air drying your clothes is a easy start. Hand washing your dishes is another - doing them in cold water is even better.

For your kitchen: microwaves, juicers, coffee makers, electric kettles etc. - all these things suck energy even when turned off and need to be unplugged when not in use. See also the Geek's page on your refrigerator.
