Energy Efficient Refrigerator

An energy efficient refrigerator is worth the little extra you have to shell out. Your refrigerator is the biggest energy eating appliance. If yours is over 10 years old, a new energy efficient one will save about $75 a year. Here's some important frige tips:

  • Use a dollar bill to check if the door seals correctly. Close the door on the bill and if pulls out easily, time to replace the sealing.
  • Place your frige away from your stove, dishwasher, heat vents, and even out of direct sunlight.
  • Defrost the ol' freezer. Yeah, it's a pain but if the build up is over 1/4 inch it will effect it.
  • Around the back of every frige are condenser coils. They need to be vacuumed about twice a year, and they need enough space between the wall or the air can't circulate.
  • Recomended temperature for your frige should be 37-40 degrees and 5 degrees for the freezer.
